The work on finessTV has resulted in some improvements which have now also been implemented in the media server:

  1. Energy saving: when connecting by a client, the Mac is woken up and then the sleep is prevented.
  2. External connection: outside the local network, connections are now possible again even if the router firewall is switched on.
  3. Video quality for convertion: for each user the quality (for example, “4096” for high quality and fast connection) can be specified optionally – otherwise it will be automatically calculated as before.
  4. EyeTV movies: optionally, EyeTV movies are segmented by ffmpeg if ffmpeg is installed in the Utilities folder.

Previously, access to the media server was only possible through nessViewer App on iPad, iPhone, iPod touch or nessMediaCenter App on AppleTV. On another Mac, however, the media could only be transferred using a FTP client.
From now on, the media server can also be accessed on another Mac in the MediaCenter.
For this purpose, the name and password for the access must be entered in the preferences (tab “Center”) by “Media Server”. Optionally the external address (or domain) and the port can be specified – otherwise the media server will be found automatically by Bonjour.

In the 64 bit version, media shows can also be displayed as a contact sheet after the drawer has been hidden.

For the improvements in the media server, nessViewer App had to be adapted for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch.
In order to make the preferences in the “Settings App” easier to access, the corresponding “Prefs.” button is now available in the info display (Info button “i” in the upper right corner of the main view).
